These People Ought to Be in Jail

I filed an auto claim with AAA Insurance and it took them THIRTY-EIGHT DAYS to send an appraiser, during which time I was charged a storage fee of $45 per day by the mechanic. According to the mechanic’s notes on the bill, he had attempted to contact my AAA claims representative (Martell Reed) numerous times, but his calls and messages went unreturned. When he was finally able to schedule a time with the appraiser, the appraiser pulled a no-show, allowing my car to sit for another week.

When I complained to Mr. Reed’s supervisor (Samantha Zak), I was told that they would not only refuse to reimburse me for a single day’s worth of storage fees, but that they would do nothing about the $600 in towing fees (even though I am also a member of AAA Roadside Assistance). Her “excuse” was that they had attempted to call the mechanic numerous times, but that his voicemail was full. This is total B.S. of course, as I had the same exact phone number for the garage, and never had an issue getting through.

Even if the mechanic’s voicemail was full, there were multiple ways AAA Insurance could’ve gotten in touch with the garage… fax, email, in person, social media, etc. The fact that they made no effort whatsoever to look out for the interests of a 12-year policyholder is the very epitome of bad faith. Not only will I be pursuing legal action, but I will be bringing this matter to the attention of the state’s attorney general and the state insurance commissioner.

In the meantime, I strongly urge everyone to steer clear of AAA and every service they provide, from insurance to roadside assistance. I’ve already cancelled one of my AAA policies, and will be cancelling the other tomorrow. My parents will also be cancelling theirs. And if anyone from AAA is reading this, this post will stay up until I receive some sort of reimbursement– either directly, or in a court of law– for your unethical practices, lies, deception, and terrible customer service. Until then, I will be posting about my experience until the letters on my keyboard are worn off!
