Why this campaign matters

The incident occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Terminal 1, where a SpiceJet passenger was involved in a confrontation with an off-duty pilot from Air India Express. According to publicly reported accounts, the disagreement began over access to a staff-only lane. The exchange reportedly escalated after the pilot allegedly used a derogatory remark, following which a physical scuffle took place. The passenger later shared photographs online showing facial injuries, claiming he was assaulted during the altercation. The incident quickly drew public attention after circulating on social media and being picked up by national news outlets.

Media reports identified the pilot as Virender Sejwal, while noting that the passenger was travelling with SpiceJet. In response, Air India Express stated that the pilot had been removed from duty pending an internal inquiry and expressed regret over the incident. Authorities acknowledged awareness of the matter and indicated that further action would depend on the outcome of investigations and the filing of a formal complaint. At the time of reporting, the case remained under review, with no final legal determination announced.

6 Tips Submited

What do you think should be done?

The situation need to be handled in a proper and fair way, without jumping to conclusions but also without ignoring what has come out in public. When such an incident happens involving airline staff, it is not only about one person, it also becomes responsibility of the airline. A clear and time-bound investigation should be done, and people should be told what action is being taken. If everything is kept silent or only vague statements are given, public trust will go down, especially in aviation where discipline and behaviour matters a lot. At the same time, the passenger should get a proper chance to raise his complaint and be heard seriously. Whatever the outcome is, it should be shared openly, whether it supports the allegation or not. This is not about targeting anyone personally, but about showing that rules apply to everyone equally. For Air India Express, this is a chance to show that passenger respect and professionalism are more important than protecting image, and that wrong conduct, if proven, will not be brushed under the carpet.
