Misleading. Please watch out
In regards to FindAGrave – as Count Dracula said to Jonathan Harker “Enter of your owe free will.”
FindAGrave is misleading. It lures unsuspecting people through the gates with the promise of creating a “free” virtual online Memorial in memory of a departed loved one. Once the memorial is made it is taken over by Megan Heyl or Valencia Fitkin – two of FindAGrave’s Official team/staff. There r others but these two have been with FindAGrave for ten years or longer. Megan Heyl has a degree in genealogy Valencia Fitkin does not, With Fitkin genealogy is more a hobby. Both are LDS aka Latter Day Saints aka Mormon or at one time they were. The only reason I mention these two now is so you can understand how FindAGrave works and why it works that way.
After the “take over” material is added to what you supplied when making the memorial. The info harvested online for the most part can include marriages, name changes, divorces, ex spouses, children biological and adopted but not necessarily in any order. During the search for vitals the data base may include time sensitive material such as bankruptcies, criminal offenses, jail time that sort of thing. Once the file has been completed it is sent to Salt Lake City and becomes part of LDS’s data library. The data is also used for marketing purposes.
If you do not like the background check and complain your privileges can be suspended for a month. If you get into any arguments wit LDS staff i.e. Megan Hey, Valencia Fitkin or who ever is handling the work load chances are you will be banned permanently from FindAGrave.
You may not like it. But there is little you can do. LSD aka FindAGrave kept their end of the bargain. They allowed you to create a free memorial. You just never thought an organization connected with a church could be that smarmy. Happens all the time. Get over it and move on with your life.
But why does LSD/Mormon Church need all this personal info? Mormons, devout ones, take genealogy seriously, It’s part of their religion. Also, part of their religion is to trace the tree back to Adam and Eve. (this where Mormons come up with “one big family.” If you have ever had the unfortunate experience of being on “FamilySearch’ you will have a better understanding of what goes on with these “site” take-overs on FindAGrave and why somw of these major contributors are into numbers games with the memorials. In short – It is their ticket into heaven, How about people who are not Mormon who are now dead and could never have a chance of becoming Mormon. Have no fear the Bishops of LDS have that all figured out too. With the body not present you rebaptize the dead into the Mormon faith using a specialized ritual. Usually 100s are rebatized at the same time. So where did the Mormons get all the names? From unsuspecting people crossing over into
