Review of Modderman services
Horrible experience as well! I took my 1977 Porsche 911 to Dave I went to him because of the reviews that I saw. I had my car towed into his shop because it wasn’t starting it was dumping gas when trying to start. I told him to take his time on the car if he had other cars to finish I wasn’t in a hurry I wanted to make things easier. I’m not the kind of person to pressure anyone. It was odd to me that he never gave me any paperwork or had me sign anything upon leaving the car. But I didn’t think to much of it he just said I’ll call you to let you know what I find. A week went by he called me to tell me the car was done and I can pick it up. I was happy to hear that so I got a ride went to his shop. When I got there I heard my car alarm going off. I saw him under the hood trying to find away to turn it off he was trying to disconnect my alarm fuses. He saw me walk inside the shop and told me he couldn’t turn off my alarm. I was able to turn it off, he than started the car for me the car turned on but was smoking and not running that good. He said just to drive it and it will be ok. When I asked him what was wrong with the car he said my fuel distributor plunger was stuck and he had a used plunger from another fuel distributor and he put it on. He than gave me the bill for over $900. He said he he had started to work on the car that same day so the car sat a week with out being touched until that day so I thought ok it wasn’t that hard of a fix he said he spend around 4 hours on it. When I saw the receipt he charged me $250 for a use plunger. But I was just happy my car was finally running. So I paid him and was about to drive off and he walked up to me and told me I forgot to mention your brakes are loose the car is not braking well I was surprised because there was never anything wrong with my brakes. I pressed the brakes and the pedal was going all the way to the floor it had pressure I had to pump it to stop. So I asked him if he new what it could be? That I didn’t want to take the car on the freeway like that. I told him can you check it and fix it for me. He said yes but you have to bring it back another day i can’t do it now I have other cars I need to finish. I couldn’t believe he would say that he didn’t care about me driving the car like that he just wanted to get me out of his shop. I even told him I can leave it and just get to it when you can. I can Uber home he just said he couldn’t he didn’t have time till next week. I opened the hood and checked my brake reservoir and saw I had no brake fluid! So I showed it to him so he went and grabbed some fluid and started to fill it up. But we saw the fluid just started poring out out underneath. It was the plastic cap that a hose came out off that went into the master cylinder it was broken off like someone had pushed it or pulled it because it was just a return hose that has no pressure for it to have broken like that. So I just drove it home like that luckily I made it home. I started to look at the hose and noticed that in the Same are the wires from my alarm were moved around so it got me thinking that the plastic piece was probably broken when he was trying to disconnect my alarm! There was no other explanation. But I didn’t say anything I just had to change that part out which was simple the only thing was I had to bleed all the brakes that was the bad part. Anyway after that ordeal if that wasn’t enough 2 days later my car didn’t want to start again and the gas problem was still there! I called Dave and told him what happened he didn’t say much I told him he should have called me before he put my car together to let me know what he had found. Because if I would have known he was just gonna change the plunger I would have said no! I would have rather buy a rebuild fuel distributor or a better one from high performance house where I get parts. They told me they had used ones and could get me a rebuild one also. And talking to other porsche mechanics everyone told me it’s not a good idea just to change the plunger you should change everything. They even said how do you even know he changed the plunger on yours he probably just cleaned it and that’s why it’s not working again. After I called dave back he said he can give me $200 dollars in refund and he can’t do anything else! Don’t trust this place take your car somewhere else.
