Scam booting practices
I visited N.O. on January 28, arriving just after 8. Hotel did not say they had valet and directed to a lot my truck and trailer wouldn’t fit in. Attendant directed me over another block, Roosevelt I believe, and across Canal St. I pulled into lot, where a polite homeless man informed he would sleep next to my truck and trailer, and make sure no one broke in. Kind of shocked, I said ok, and he helped me navigate into corner spot against 2 walls, so I didn’t block anyone or take up too much space. I gave him 10$ and asked where to pay for parking as all signs said pay Iberville side, with no arrows or signage to a kiosk. I asked if homeless guy would keep an eye out while I went to pay, and I would get him dinner, he wanted a burger from Alibis, 1.5 blocks away. I walked out entrance and asked pedestrian where Iberville side is, and they pointed away from Canal st. As I got to corner of block and building, there were no signs for street. I crossed and proceeded looking for and Iberville side sign, thinking it was a business name. Just passed the corner lot, I asked a gentleman where Iberville side was, and he pointed back towards Canal st. As I again passed open lot across from where I parked, I spotted a kiosk and asked the man near it if that was where I paid my parking. He said he didn’t know, but wouldn’t park there, and showed me his broken rear window. I re-entered building I parked in, 5 minutes having passed, and spotted 2 boots on my truck, and a note on driver’s window, and a guy ain white eco Ford just getting back in his car next to truck.
I hollered and hurried over, and asked what was going on as I just arrived and was trying to pay for parking. He snidely said to read the signs, and refused to remove boots. I asked where the sign was pointing to kiosk, and he just smiled and pointed to signs, and insinuated I didn’t know how to use my smart phone. I let him know it had died while driving, and was currently low on charge, and I was trying to pay for parking, but couldn’t find the pay center. I explained I had just arrived, and hadn’t even checked into hotel, and pointed to homeless guy who was sleeping next toy truck. Tom then charged me 120$, fee for parking, and 90 for boot scam. As I had just come from visiting my friend and attorney in Colorado, which I pointed out to Tom, and was sarcastically told ” oh, you must keep him on retainer”. I said I just have him help me handle it. When I called him, he instructed starting with chamber of commerce and police. Done and done. I checked in, then returned, because I had promised homeless guy a burger. After feeding him, I left for hotel and sleep. Returned in a.m., and truck was intact, so I went to checkout, and bought him breakfast which he was happy to wake up to, as it was in the 30s that night.
I truly hope you read this, as I just got home late last night, and will be continuing any and all punitive measures. 90$ for the kind of advertisements and negatives associated with scamming people doesn’t seem worth it, for your business, but play stupid games and win stupid prizes. At the least, you should refund, apologize, and fire Tom. I don’t think you will, so I’m gonna get every bit of that 90$, and I’m fairly certain that you won’t like your stupid prize.
